We had a wonderful visit on Thursday from Evie’s Owls, who brought along some very special guests—baby goats and rabbits!

Following the children’s continued interest in life cycles and growing our own vegetables, this experience provided a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of the natural world. The children were able to hand-feed the baby goats and enjoy gentle cuddles with the rabbits, supporting their confidence and curiosity as they explored living things up close.

We talked about how goats are similar to us, noticing that their young drink milk and are called “kids,” which sparked lots of conversation and new vocabulary. The children were equally fascinated by the differences, particularly their hooves and horns, encouraging them to observe, ask questions, and make connections.

Throughout the session, children were supported to be calm, respectful, and gentle with the animals, as well as practising good hand hygiene—helping to develop their awareness of how to care for themselves and others.

Experiences like this naturally support the EYFS, as children build their understanding of the world through first-hand exploration, develop confidence and empathy when interacting with living creatures, and extend their language through meaningful discussion.

It was a truly memorable day, and the children gained so much from this hands-on experience!
