Today our children had a truly lovely time exploring snow and ice, sparking lots of curiosity and excitement. Through hands-on play, they learned about temperature, how ice feels and changes, and what happens when snow melts. There were plenty of questions, observations, and smiles as little scientists investigated the world around them.
These experiences link beautifully to the EYFS framework, particularly Understanding the World. By exploring natural materials and seasonal changes, the children are developing their knowledge of the environment in a meaningful and memorable way.
This kind of learning also reflects the Characteristics of Effective Learning—the children were actively exploring, playing, thinking critically, and creating their own ideas. Learning through real-life experiences like this is such a natural and joyful way for children to make sense of the world around them.
A wonderful day of winter learning!
